Embracing Uncertainty to Achieve Your Life Goals
Embracing Uncertainty to Achieve Your Life Goals
Everyone working today faces an unpredictable future. Companies merge causing duplicate jobs to disappear. Lay-offs happen. Businesses fail. These events impact even great employees.
You want to take a career break to enjoy a more rewarding lifestyle? How do you manage a career break with the unpredictability detailed above?
So how do you handle the job and life volatility?
Taking career breaks requires embracing uncertainty. Doubts about the future can be challenging. The plus side is that it provides an opportunity for growth and development.
Below are some points to help you embrace uncertainty.
Adaptability is key
When you work and take a career break, or multiple career breaks, you must be adaptable. If you work as an agency contract employee (a good work arrangement for taking multiple career breaks), every project is different. You’ll need to adjust to the new environment, company culture, and project requirements. Embracing uncertainty means that you’re willing to learn and grow in new situations. Being adaptable also helps you build resilience. This strength is essential for enjoying career breaks.
New opportunities arise
Embracing uncertainty can also lead to new opportunities. These openings include working with a variety of clients in different industries. This can help you build a diverse skill set and broaden your experience. Take advantage of unexpected opportunities that come your way.
I took a contract job in southern California when I wasn’t able to find a contract job in my local area. That job allowed me to experience living in a new area. We also travelled Route 66 on the trip out. The California job led to me working in Colorado twice. The Colorado job gave me the ability to see many of the western national parks.
You’ll learn to trust yourself
Embracing uncertainty means trusting yourself and your abilities. When you’re in a new environment, you may not have all the answers or know what’s coming next. However, you can trust that you have the skills and experience to figure things out as you go. This can be empowering and lead to increased self-confidence.
It’s an opportunity for personal growth
Working as a contract employee and taking career breaks entails personal growth. Embracing uncertainty means stepping outside of your comfort zone. It also means taking on new challenges. This can lead to personal development and growth. That growth is both personal and professional.
You’ll be more resilient
When you embrace uncertainty, you build resilience. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from setbacks and challenges. As a contract employee, you may face rejection, difficult bosses, and project setbacks. If you remain flexible, you’ll be better equipped to handle these challenges.
Embracing uncertainty is an essential mindset when working as a contract employee. It is true when you also take frequent career breaks. Although uncertainty can be challenging, it’s also an opportunity for growth and development.
Be comfortable not knowing what will happen next. Be comfortable with life not going exactly as planned. My first lay-off later led to me taking annual career breaks. More uncertainty, please!
